This thesis project aims to fuse the idea of wellness and sports rehabilitation in one facility with an overlying design of graphics leading the design. In terms of graphics, branding and wayfinding will be the two dominate factors that influence the design decisions. Designing a sport wellness and rehabilitation center needs to be strategic and distinct of the purpose. For one thing, the interior design of such a sport complex mainstreams aspects of quality, quantity, vision and good practice. Designing the center’s interior entails more than the aesthetic element and extends into sustainability and innovations aimed at meeting intended goals. In this case, the wellness center is specific on platforms of obesity victims to regain health while at the same time accommodating athletes in light of training and rehabilitation. In addition, demographic and open space standards should be taken into account when designing a sports wellness and rehabilitation center.
A wellness, training and rehabilitation center provides a cost effective solution for members and athletes as a safe option. There are widely distinct requirements for the building’s working space and individual facilities. Consequently, there is need for careful analysis in designing each facility; the design and briefing stages of a spots wellness and rehabilitation center form center stage in its development. Consideration of subsequent operational, installation and design issues take three different dimensions. One, the predominant sporting use that in this case, is promotion of health programs for individuals with obesity. Secondly, the degree of intensity of the facility’s use and performance characteristics required. Lastly, considerations on designing and installing the center need to address the projected maintained lifespan.
The design is based upon the concept of gears, as a mechanical device that requires all parts to work to function properly, similar to the human body. The idea of the gears correlate with the factory style structure as well as the building blocks to the human body, in terms of fitness and health. Furthermore, the idea of repeating circles throughout the initial plan lead the design to work within the two geometries of circles and squares.
